Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) - Ausangate

We'll travel approximately 2 hours in our comfortable Mercedes-Benz tourist transport with integrated heating, passing through picturesque Andean villages such as Oropesa, Andahuaylillas and Urcos. During the journey, you'll enjoy beautiful rural landscapes while our guide shares information about the region.

Energy Breakfast in Cusipata At approximately 6:30 a.m. we'll arrive in the district of Cusipata (3,310 m.a.s.l.) in the province of Quispicanchi, where we'll enjoy a nutritious buffet breakfast that will provide you with the necessary energy for the trek. Here you'll have a short break to acclimatise and prepare for the adventure.

Entry and Control Point After breakfast, we'll continue our journey to the first checkpoint in the rural community of Tintinco and Paucarpata (10 minutes from Cusipata). Then, we'll travel an additional 25 minutes to the second checkpoint in the community of Chillihuani. From here we continue to Phulawasipata (4,650 masl), the starting point of our trek.

Ascent of the 7-colour mountain We'll start our hike at approximately 8:45 a.m. The trail ascends gradually for approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. Along the way we'll see South American camelids (llamas and alpacas) grazing in their natural habitat and, if we are lucky, we may spot vicuñas and condors. Our guide will be attentive to your pace and needs, and we'll have trekking poles available to facilitate the ascent.

Summit experience Around 10:30 a.m. we'll arrive at the summit of Vinicunca (5,090 m.a.s.l.). Here we'll have approximately 1 hour to explore, take impressive pictures and learn about the unique geological formation of the mountain with the explanation of our specialized guide. From this privileged point, we'll also appreciate panoramic views of the imposing Cordillera Vilcanota and the majestic Nevado de Ausangate (6,384 masl).

Descent and Transfer for Lunch We'll start our descent at approximately 11:30 a.m., returning to the starting point at Phulawasipata. The hike down takes approximately 1 hour. From there, we'll transfer in our transport back to Cusipata, where we'll enjoy a delicious traditional buffet lunch at one of the best local restaurants around 2:00 p.m.

Return to Cusco After lunch and a well-deserved rest, at approximately 3:00 p.m. we'll start our return trip to Cusco. We'll arrive in the city around 4:30 p.m.
